Deducible (cobertura médica)

A deductible is the amount you pay for covered care each year before your health plan starts to pay its share.

Until you reach your deductible, you pay the full cost of covered services yourself. After it, you share costs with the plan through a copay or coinsurance, until you reach the out-of-pocket maximum.

Many plans cover some preventive care before the deductible. Plans with a lower monthly premium often have a higher deductible, and the other way round.

Datos de ejemploA plan has a deductible of $1,500.In March, a visit costs $200. You pay all $200: you have not reached the deductible.By October you have paid $1,500 in covered costs. From then on you pay your coinsurance share, and the plan pays the rest.
